Rotary Club of South Sacramento partners with the South Sacramento Interfaith Partnership (SSIP) Food Closet for Rotary People of Action Work Day – April 15, 2023

With a long history of prior financial and volunteer support for SSIP’s Food Closet, the South Sacramento Rotary Club will team up with them once again on Rotary People of Action Workday. Club members will volunteer to assist the Food Closet with a day of clean-up, both inside and out for the SSIP Food Closet.

Located at 5625 24th Street in South Sacramento, the primary mission of the SSIP Food Closet is to maintain and operate an emergency food distribution program to help alleviate food insecurity for Sacramento area residents. Partner faith-based organizations, with assistance from local businesses and other community members, provide the support and resources for the Food Closet’s mission. The SSIP Food Closet feeds an average of 9,000 people a month!

The Rotary Club of South Sacramento appreciates the critically needed services they provide to alleviate food insecurity in our community. It is an honor and pleasure to be of service to the SSIP Food Closet on Rotary’s People of Action Workday 2023!
The Rotary Club of South Sacramento Charitable Giving Will Exceed $101,000 this Year

The Rotary Club of South Sacramento may be small, with only 22 members, but its ability to
raise money and distribute those resources to local charities and international humanitarian
programs is mighty!
As of early March the Club and its hardworking members had already raised and distributed
$78,100! Further, as a result of a successful 39 th Annual Crab Feed in February, another $23,000
was netted after expenses! These funds are earmarked for distribution to local non-profit
service organizations prior to the end of the fiscal year through a “request for application”
(RFA) process which will occur in the near future with a special emphasis on food and shelter
security. Once distributed, this $23,000 will bring our total fiscal year giving to over $101,000!
This year to date, the Club has made 21 grants to local and international charities and
nonprofits, and one special gift $40,000 to the Rotary Peace Centers Project. Recipients of
grants included organizations like Rise Against Hunger, Shelter Box, The Food Closet of the
South Sacramento Interfaith Partnership, and Starting Point for Refugee Children, just to name
a few. Our club also made contributions to Rotary International projects sponsored by sister
5180 Clubs including a Honduras water project, as well as a community health program in
Nicaragua.

The Rotary Club of South Sacramento Had Yet another Successful Crab Feed
Fundraiser on February 4 th 2023.

South Sacramento Rotary’s 39 th Annual Crab Feed netted over $23,000 in
charitable funds to be distributed to local non-profits and service organizations by
the end of our fiscal year.
Ticket sales exceeded 470 patrons who enjoyed fresh, delicious crab as well as
pasta, salad, rolls and desert. The wide array of raffle and silent auction items
added to the enjoyment of the evening, as well as to the overall profit of the
event.
Our major beneficiary for the Crab Feed this year is The Children’s Receiving
Home of Sacramento (CRHS) which will receive approximately $10,500 of the net
proceeds to support their local programs. Our club will also invite local charities
to apply for grants in order to distribute the balance of funds in the near future.
South Sacramento Rotary concentrates its charitable giving towards local women
and children-oriented organizations, with an emphasis this year on food and
shelter security.
We thank all the patrons of the event, local volunteers, and every South
Sacramento Rotarian who made the Crab Feed a big success!
